Event Details

This will feature Cecil Foster's new book ‘They Call Me George: The Untold Story of Black Train Porters and the Birth of Modern Canada,’ which is forthcoming in February 2019. ‘They Call Me George’ documents the political activism of the Black men who worked as Canadian train porters in the mid-20th century, and how it led to the multicultural policies of the first Trudeau administration—creating, in effect, the progressive Canada we know today. The book is told largely through Cecil’s interviews with the last living porters from the era.
