Event Details

The "Palaver tree" is an ancestral practice of the African continent, a custom of meeting and creating or maintaining social ties. It also makes it possible to settle disputes without the protagonists feeling aggrieved. In Africa, we meet at the foot of the Palaver tree, usually the baobab tree, to discuss important decisions to be made for the future of the community.

Thanks to the financial support of TD, the Palaver Tree will be held in Montreal as part of a 100% virtual event mixing traditional and immersive digital art, including conversations and exchanges with the community. We have developed a virtual concept: some participants will have the opportunity to receive VR glasses during this palaver tree and these cardboard glasses will have the TD logo.

We want to allow participants to live a unique, authentic and enriching human experience by mixing traditional art, urban art and digital art that will create universes and deal with different subjects through the Dance Battle, RAP Battle and Slam with Afro-descendant artists celebrated around the world. This will all be supported by a virtual environment, which will allow participants to interact amid the COVID-19 circumstances.

Event schedule:
7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Palaver Tree
8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - Virtual discussions with experts from Canada, Europe and Africa on the topics covered in the framework of this Palaver Tree.
